New to Early Years

We are delighted to welcome you and your child to our
Early Years family!

Starting Nursery or Reception is an exciting milestone and we are committed to making the transition as positive, nurturing and enjoyable as possible for every child.

Our Early Years setting provides a warm, stimulating environment where children are encouraged to explore, play, learn and develop confidence at their own pace. Through strong relationships with families and a carefully planned curriculum, we help children build the foundations for a lifelong love of learning.

A Proud History of Early Years Education

Our school has been providing high-quality Early Years education for over 100 years. Generations of local children have taken their first steps in learning with us and we are proud of the nurturing environment we continue to offer today.

  • Children benefit from:
  • A dedicated and experienced Early Years team.
  • A fully renovated outdoor learning environment designed to inspire exploration and discovery.
  • A shared Nursery and Reception provision, allowing children to access a wide range of learning opportunities and resources.
  • A rich continuous provision that supports children's interests, creativity and independence throughout the day.

Early Years Curriculum

Early Years Curriculum

Understanding the Early Years Curriculum

In Early Years, children learn through a balance of play, exploration, adult-led teaching and meaningful experiences.

The curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and includes seven areas of learning:

Prime Areas

  • Communication and Language
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development

Specific Areas

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

Children learn through hands-on experiences, investigation, creativity, problem-solving and play. Our curriculum is carefully planned to build knowledge and skills over time while responding to children's interests and needs.

Our Early Years Team

Our experienced Early Years staff are passionate about supporting young children to thrive. We work closely with families to build strong relationships and ensure every child feels safe, valued and happy.
We recognise that children learn best when home and school work in partnership, and we look forward to getting to know your family as your child begins their Early Years journey with us.

Working Together

Starting Nursery or Reception is the beginning of an exciting adventure. By working together, we can help every child develop confidence, independence and a love of learning that will support them throughout their education and beyond.

Our Learning Environment

Our Learning Environment

We believe children learn best when they are active, engaged and curious.

Indoor Provision

Our shared Early Years indoor environment offers a full range of continuous provision, including:

  • Construction
  • Small world play
  • Creative and malleable materials
  • Reading and nursery rhyme areas
  • Sensory play using sand and water
  • Writing and mark-making opportunities
  • Mathematical exploration
  • Investigation and discovery spaces
  • Role play and imaginative play
  • Reflection and calm zones

Children can independently access resources, follow their interests and develop important skills through purposeful play.

Outdoor Learning

Our newly renovated outdoor learning environment is an extension of the classroom and provides opportunities for:

  • Physical development
  • Exploration of the natural world
  • Large-scale sand and water play
  • Problem-solving
  • Investigation
  • Imaginative play
  • Risk-taking in a safe environment

We believe outdoor learning is an essential part of children's development and ensure children have access to outdoor experiences every day.

School Readiness

School Readiness

We understand that every child develops at their own pace. There is no expectation that children can do everything independently before they start school.

However, opportunities to practise the following skills can help children settle quickly:

Self-Care Skills

Using the toilet independently where developmentally appropriate.
Washing and drying hands.
Managing simple clothing such as coats and shoes.

Independence Skills

Putting belongings away.
Carrying a lunchbox or water bottle.
Making simple choices.
Following simple instructions.

Social Skills

Taking turns.
Listening to others.
Joining in with activities.
Beginning to solve simple disagreements with support.

These skills help children develop confidence, resilience and a positive attitude towards learning.
